Kaunas (100 km)The second largest city of the country. Situated at the confluence of two main rivers the Nemunas and the Neris, Kaunas in the middle ages protected not only town, but also approaches to the heart of the country.
Now the Old Castle Square is a favourite place for promenades and various events. The main market square nearby, where Hansa merchants once run their shops, is featured by tall Town Hall structure, referred as the “White Swan”. Catholic priest seminary, gothic Cathedral and Church of Vytautas, Perkunas House, in neighbourhood are also places of interest.

The most popular among great number of museums of Kaunas there is National Art Gallery by prominent composer and painter M. K. Ciurlionis (1875-1911) and Museum of Devils. And it is always nice to relax in a small side walk café on the Liberty avenue (Laisves aleja), to have a stroll along this main pedestrianised street of the town. The town that between the two world wars was known as temporary capital of Lithuania (1919-1939).
