5.Baltic Amberland (10 days/ 9 nights)

No 5. Vilnius - Palanga/ Nida - Riga - Tallinn

The route encompass three capital cities of the Baltic countries, its most prominent architectural monuments and historical places, three National Parks and the most popular summer resorts of the Baltic seaside, among them five recognised UNESCO World Heritage Sites (WHS).
Highly recommended to those eager to see the utmost of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, enjoying the culture and nature of the Baltic Amberland.

Vilnius

Day 1: Arrival Vilnius, capital of Lithuania. Meet and accomodation at the hotel. City tour. Dinner and overnight in Vilnius.

Vilnius city tour features the Cathedral Square and Gediminas Tower, churches of St. Anne and St. Peter and Paul, Dawn Gates Chapel with miraculous image of St. Mary, Town Hall Square, Old University campus, Presidential Palace.

Trakai

Day 2. Tour to Trakai, medieval capital of Grand Lithuanian Duchy among lakes. Enjoy picturesque environs of the Trakai National Historical Park and visit the Trakai Island Castle (C.15).
Visit Genocide victims Museum located in former KGB prison in Vilnius. Dinner and overnight in Vilnius.

Day 3. Transfer to the Baltic seaside via Kaunas. Sightseeing Kaunas, second largest city enroute. Dinner and overnight in Palanga/Klaipeda.

Curonian Spit

Day 4. Sightseeing Klaipeda harbour. Cross the Curonian Lagoon by ferry. Sightseeing of Nida and Juodkrante resort.Travel trough Neringa ethnographic fishermen villages. Since 2001 Neringa resort boasts the International Blue Flag certificate. Dinner and overnight in Palanga/Klaipeda.

Sightseeing in Curonian Spit area, called Lithuanian Sahara, where dunes are streched 98 km in length, recalls to the famous German geographer W. Humboldt’s wording “not to miss a wonder for one’s soal, it is a must-see”. Climb green Hill of Witches with amazing wooden statues in Juodkrante resort. Sighseeing in Nida, the main resort of Neringa, features the Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann House, the former favourite holiday hotel of German artists expressionists in 1930-ies, highest in Europe white sand dunes, Mizgiriai Amber Gallery-Museum, where one can also obtain original Baltic gold souvenirs.

Hill of Crosses

Day 5. Transfer to Riga, capital of Latvia. Stop enroute nearby Siauliai at the Hill of Crosses, honoured by visit of Roman Pope Joan Paul II. Crosscarving craft as original spiritual folk art has been inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage list. Proceed to Latvia.

Sightseeing enroute the splendid baroque style Rundale Palace (C.18). Late afternoon arrival in Riga/Jurmala. Dinner and overnight in Riga.

Riga

Day 6. Sightseeing Riga, UNESCO World Heritage site. Dinner and overnight in Riga.
Riga sightseeing highlights Dome Cathedral (C.13), Livonian Order Castle, Blackheads House, wonderful collection of Art-Nouve buildings in the centre.

Day 7. Departure to Tallinn, via Sigulda, visiting medieval Turaida Castle. Travel along the Latvian recreation area of the Baltic seashore with a stop in Parnu, the most favourite Estonian summer resort. Accommodation, dinner and overnight in Tallinn.

Day 8. Sightseeing Old Tallinn, UNESCO World Heritage site. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Tallinn.

Tallinn sightseeing includes: Lower and Upper Town, Dome Cathedral (C.13), Toompea Castle (C.14), the best preserved medieval Town Hall in Europe (C.15), Kiek-in-de-Kiok tower, oldest still functioning Apothecary in the world.

Tallinn

Day 9. Time at leisure or optional full day trip by ferry to Helsinki (sightseeing in Helsinki). Dinner and overnight in Tallinn.

Day 10. Departure home from Tallinn.
